Mela - Recipe Manager

First off, I would like to say that the aesthetic and design of this app is spot on. I love the layout, the choice of font, and how the recipe is displayed. The recipe importer is fantastic, the best recipe importer of any app that I’ve ever used. I love that I can take a picture from a book. I can snip a website. I can scan a recipe card. Whatever format your recipes in, this app can import them in someway. The sharing of your recipe collection with other users, such as family members or friends is also a much welcome to benefit! after importing quite a few recipes, the first thing that you’ll notice is the navigation can be a bit wonky, for example, in order to search for a recipe if you’ve scrolled down the list of recipes you need to scroll all the way back up to the top to get to the search bar. It would be nice if a search bar lived at the top permanently. When it comes to the organization of recipes, I can’t complain much however I do miss the hierarchy of the folder, structure in paprika, which makes it a little bit easier to find what I’m looking for. When inside the recipe specifically in Cook mode, it would be beneficial if the ingredients in the text would highlight as tappable Text, in which case would display the amount of ingredient from the ingredient list. As far as meal planning and groceries go, it would be nice to be able to put your meal plan together and then select the days that you want to build a grocery list for and send all of those ingredients to your grocery list and before fully adding everything combine the similar items and if needed open a prompt to correct any mismatches or approve any possible matches so your grocery list doesn’t have several of the same items in it. Having a separate spot in the app where you can include things from your pantry, such as spices that you don’t need to purchase on a regular basis that would stop those ingredients from being added to your grocery list would be nice. Overall, I would say this app has definitely become my go to in terms of the cooking mode, but unfortunately, I am still using paprika because the meal planning and grocery list is just to stressful of a task to keep up with. The way paprika allows you to create a meal plan export the entire meal plan to your grocery list and before adding everything asks you what needs to be combined what don’t you need, etc. makes the experience much more pleasurable. I would still recommend this app to anybody that wants a decent recipe app and maybe doesn’t need the meal planning features of it. I hope some of these recommendations will make it into future updates, but for now I will say this App is definitely one of the best.

Couldn’t be better.

To be honest, I was a bit skeptical about getting this app and using it but I was completely wrong! This app is AMAZING! I would always come across recipes online and would bookmark them but no longer do I need that! This app is able to capture any recipe for any website. The best thing is, the recipe itself is saved and removed all the unnecessary verbiage that we usually skip over. If I could give this 6 stars out of 5 I would!

Just get it. Worth every penny.

I used to use Pinterest and a 3 ring binder to store all my recipes, but Pinterest was hard as pulling them up to cook had so many ads, and my physical 3 ring binder was hard to locate which recipe I wanted. Mela makes it so easy by recognizing and inputting recipes either from a website, or scanning a paper print out, or even just typing it in it super easy and fast to do. Then I can assign meals to days on the calendar?! Super helpful! I also love that it will generate a shopping list, but also allow me to uncheck items that are already in my pantry first. I do kinda wish there was an option to put my grocery list into Alexa instead of Apple’s reminders app, but it’s a minor thing that I can work with easily. Even juggling the two grocery lists isn’t hard.

So easy to use. Works like a dream. All my recipes in one place.

Nice app

Probably the best recipe app I have ever seen, what an absolute pleasure it is to use this app. It is so well organized and integrated with native ios apps.

This is a pretty good recipe app, but it has a ways to go. Some features I’d like to see: - Better iCloud integration. Currently, there is a bug where grocery lists made on the app don’t automatically sync with the phone app. In order to do this I have to turn iCloud syncing off and then turn it on again - Saved shopping lists. I have a lot of items I buy regularly but that aren’t part of any particular recipe. I’d like a way to save certain items as shopping list favorites so I can add them to new lists easily - Organized shopping lists. Currently the grocery lists are just a jumble of items. It’d be nice to have them sorted by aisle or department (this is a feature that Samsung Food/Whisk does well)
